Zoe Modgill is a founder and instructor at Studio 60, a group fitness gym that's been responsible for bringing spunk back into working out and for getting women in Delhi to pump and work out hard. Studio 60 has a large, dedicated fan following and a fun, zingy vibe. The energy there is uplifting and when you meet Zoe, it's not hard to see why. Here, she talks to us about her journey into fitness and the idea behind Studio 60.
A. All throughout school, I was a sporty but overweight kid. But from horse riding to basketball, I was always active, but not fit. Nonetheless, in 2007 I really got into the idea of working out, starting out with group classes! In my opinion, group classes are the best way to get your motivation soaring, surrounded by people at all different levels, better and worse! From training to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to going for a 6am run at Lodhi Gardens, I soon became addicted to that incredible feeling of sweating it out and challenging yourself.
A. Once I became a group fitness addict, there was just no stopping! One thing led to another and before I knew it, I signed up for a Les Mills group fitness instructor program for Bodypump (weight training). What I enjoyed the most was seeing people motivated and inspired by their instructors. I wanted to also be able to make people feel good about themselves while working hard. There is no alternative to that feeling of accomplishment and perseverance. This idea to create a platform for people to truly enjoy a workout in a place that made them feel energised and positive became the foundation of Studio 60!
A. It all began right here in Delhi. A lot of people do not know that Delhi has some incredible training programs! The more I attended these sessions, the more inspiring trainers I met – each with something new and unique to learn from. In my opinion, learning doesn’t and shouldn’t stop. I continue to attend and be a part of as many different training programs as possible. Today, I participate in training programs in fitness, nutrition and now lifestyle coaching to name a few!
A. I love a challenge. I am drawn to workouts that test my perseverance, stamina and strength, from HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) to Functional Training. In my opinion, the best kind of workouts are those that not only challenge your body but also your mind.
A. The chance to be able to learn from some incredible group fitness instructors and my personal trainer really drives me. Even more so, it is my general passion for movement and the feel good factor that really inspires me to keep going every day. My family often jokes that I am most fidgety and agitated when it comes to Sunday (the only day our Studio is closed). I’m a big believer in the importance of being excited to go back to ‘work’ on Monday. It’s a great feeling.
A. It has been huge! There is no doubt that exercise for the mind and body can truly change your life. For me, I feel like I have an amazing purpose and goal set out for each and every day. Yes, a disciplined routine is tough to maintain but there is nothing more rewarding and fulfilling.
A. Honestly, the vibe and the energy! For us at Studio 60, it’s not about tying people down into contracts. It’s about giving each and every member the importance they deserve, not just as a ‘client’ but as part of the Studio 60 family. That’s what makes us different!
A. I'm not such a fussy eater, and I really eat what I crave in the moment! Japanese food is one of my favourites.
A. Oh wow, where do I begin? Fitness creativity is never ending! And I'm always game for trying something new. Keep a watch out for Delhi’s biggest boot camp.
