The Stripe Collection by EKA
Eka, by Rina Singh, is guided by ideals of comfort and sustainability, while remaining timelessly chic. Muted colours, minimal prints, and carefully constructed silhouettes that look deceptively easy are the trademarks of an Eka piece. Her Spring/Summer 2015 collection projects serene calm. We spoke to Rina about her design philosophy.
“The collection is called “Love is all you need” which was my debut collection at this year’s Amazon India Fashion Week. Love is the most basic component of a fulfilled life, and really, an answer to a lot of unwanted stress. So I wanted to do a pretty, pastel, pure collection.”
“
Eka style is comfort-oriented, which was my state of mind after working in the industry for a good 10 years (at Wills Lifestyle). I realised women care more for what they wear everyday than occasionally… I made alternatives for a kurta or dress that could be comfortably layered, or worn as a separate, styled in either the Western or Indian sensibility.”

Singh has her fabric woven on handlooms, and uses block prints. She works consistently with the same weavers, printers, and craftsmen. “
The idea of sustainability fuels every aspect of my life. Fashion is just a part of it. I only work with natural fibres: cotton, wool, silk, and linen.”
“
My shapes are simple and follow the line of the body. I work with handmade fabrics. If I decorate them extensively, I feel it takes away from the charm and simplicity of the design.”
